Two people I love in the world are people I haven’t actually spent a lot of time talking about. I imagine I don’t talk about them because I know that they watch me preach on Sundays and I’m pretty sure that they’re not necessarily comfortable hearing about themselves. My parents have had a massive effect on me in terms of shaping me and molding me into the person I am today. So why do I love them?
I love my mom because she is a servant. When I was growing up, she was the person who did everything to make all the different pieces fit together. Never thinking of her own interests but only thinking about the interests of the people around her. She served my dad. She served my brother and I. She served the schools. She served AYSO soccer. She is a servant through and through.
And then there’s my dad. Retired cardiologist. I think at one point the comparison was made to say that he fixed broken hearts and in some ways that is the legacy that I continue on behalf of Jesus. I think my dad was a great doctor, but I think his real gift is that he loves people. He loves getting to know people. He loves hearing people’s stories. He loves being a cheerleader an encourager of the people who are around him.
So, during this season where we are talking so much about love I just wanted to share with you a couple of people that I love. Thanks mom and dad for all your love and support in the many seasons we have been through together.
Who are the people who have loved you and made you who you are?
Peace,
Keenan Barber, Senior Pastor
