“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12 (NRSV)
I love this verse because in these times of change, uncertainty and constant unrest, it is a perfect reminder of who God calls us to be and what God calls us to do. Period.
This verse doesn’t minimize who we are, it exemplifies who we are called to be. It directs all of our actions in how we should behave. It reminds us of the importance of these characteristics we are called to bear, uphold and reveal to a broken world that is crying out to God in desperation.
If we think of this time in our history, we should be more compassionate, not less…more kind, not less. We should exhibit more humility and meekness, not less. And we all need to exhibit the patience that comes from the hope we have in Jesus.
As a matter of fact, we can wrap this verse up into one word…HOPE. It is because of the hope we have in Jesus that we are able to embody these characteristics. It is because of the hope we have in Jesus that we are able to share them with those in such desperate need of our Savior too!
So for “this time” and for all future times, my friends, Clothe Yourselves and go out and reveal to all mankind the Hope you have in Jesus!
Have a blessed week!
Peace,
