Meet April, our new Deacon:
I grew up in Palmdale and went on to attend UC Santa Barbara, followed by earning a Master’s degree in International Politics and Human Rights from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. I currently work for the City, where I oversee housing programs and have the privilege of serving and supporting people in our community.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, traveling, and hiking with my dogs. I love trying new foods and have a particular appreciation for chocolate and tea, two things I consider essential to a well-balanced life. In my downtime, you’ll often find me watching old musicals, with Singin’ in the Rain being a longtime favorite, or getting lost in something on the History Channel.
I love spending time outdoors, especially at the beach and among the redwoods. I also try to make it back to Scotland as often as I can; it’s a place that feels a little like a second home to me.
I’ve been part of MPC for a couple of years, and it has become a meaningful place of community and spiritual growth for me. As a deacon, I look forward to being of service to others and walking alongside people through the different seasons of life.
One of the guiding principles I try to live by is the Serenity Prayer. While it isn’t a Bible verse, its message of accepting what we cannot change, having courage to change what we can, and seeking wisdom to know the difference has always resonated deeply with me. It’s a reminder I try to carry with me.
